Divine Joshua Ikubor Biography
Divine Joshua Ikubor, professionally known as Rema, is a popular young Nigerian musician born in 2000. In 2019, he signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a new imprint under Mavin Records. He rose to prominence with the release of hit songs such as “Iron Man” and “Dumebi.”
Rema was born in Benin City, Edo State, where he also attended his primary and secondary school. Coming from a Christian background, he developed an early interest in music and began singing and rapping in churches and schools at a very young age.
His musical journey started while he was still in secondary school. During that time, he formed his own live band with his friends Almansur Sa’id, popularly known as Cent, and John Peter, known as Alisong. The group performed in several public places until Cent decided to focus on his studies. Rema continued making music with Alisong until he was eventually signed by D’Prince, the owner of Jonzing World and younger brother of Don Jazzy, which led to his introduction into Mavin Records.
Under D’Prince’s guidance, Rema released his debut project, Rema EP. Although it was his first major project, it quickly rose to the No. 1 spot on Apple Music Nigeria. He later followed it up with Freestyle EP, which also debuted at No. 1 on Apple Music Africa.
